My Friend

The other day, you waved goodbye
How could I know – for the last time,
And now I stand here with only my
regrets for never telling
you I ever noticed
all the things you did for me

You know I still remember how
you always smiled – never a frown
I loved it then, and even now
It keeps me laughing,
I feel so happy
to know that you, at last, are free

My friend, you taught me how to love, and now
I send that love to the world around me
My heart did cry the day you left, but I know
a part of you will always live inside of me

Sometimes I find myself alone
Thinking maybe you are still safe at home
All I have to do is dial the telephone
And you’ll be telling me that "what will be will be"
and "life goes on – I guarantee"

My friend, you taught me how to love, and now
I send that love to the world around me
My heart did cry the day you left, but I know
a part of you will always live inside of me
